A vintage mid-century what-not bookshelf/room divider in teak
A vintage mid-century what-not bookshelf/room divider in teak.
The shelf consists of 5 shelves with 3 turned shelf supports that is simple yet elegant in its design. It could either be used up against a wall or in the middle of the room as a room divider.
A whatnot bookshelf, or just "whatnot," is a piece of furniture featuring open shelves supported by upright posts, used for displaying small objects, ornaments, and books. Popular in the 19th century, particularly during the Victorian era, it was designed to show off a home's decorative "whatnots". The style was a simpler, more functional English version of the French étagère.
This item was produced in the mid 20th century and has veneered shelves and solid shelf supports.
The book case breaks down with all the supports unscrewing.
